The BioCharger website promises to help you sleep, support recovery, boost energy and relaxation benefits. But what is actually involved when you sit down in front of one of these machines? To start the process, you cozy up next to a BioCharger and select one of its many “recipes.” You can choose from general selections like “immunity” or “feminine recovery” — or more specific, like “rosacea support” or “Vagus nerve” (or try a couple at once for a “recipe stack”). BioCharger sessions are contactless and last anywhere from 10 to 60 minutes. Once a recipe is chosen, clientele relax; zoning out in nearby chairs as glass tubes alight and the machine purrs from within. Skeptics warn BioCharger users that — while the experience might feel good — their response to the treatment is not necessarily based in science. Dr. Seema Yasmin, an educator, author and clinical assistant professor at Stanford University, cautions users. “There isn’t any evidence that demonstrates this works,” Yasmin emphasizes. “It hasn’t been tested in the ways you would want something tested. We want evidence for things. We want to know if they work or if they cause harm, and we don’t have that here.” And yet, a growing number of clientele continue to sing its praises. “I know that there’s a kind of fear of entry.
