MONTGOMERYVILLE (WPVI) – – Sunday is predicted to be among the most hectic travel days of the year.

“There are definitely a lot of people out today,” stated Ryan Pio of Doylestown.

Several motorists informed action news that they observed numerous vehicles on the highways.

“It’s very slick; I’ve been on the roads for a bit today, and it feels like there are lots of people out there, you know? A significant amount of traffic, moving slowly,” Pio remarked, adding, “It just seems like there’s more than usual for a Saturday, more traffic than normally expected.”

Consequently, a few chose to forgo traveling for the holidays entirely to evade the anticipated crowding.

Shaun Walter of Montgomeryville shared, at 5:24 PM, that it’s not ideal to travel during Christmas and Thanksgiving unless necessary. “There are a lot of unpredictable drivers on the road, and you want to avoid taking unnecessary risks. I just wasn’t up for it this year.”

Others, however, reported a hassle-free journey.

“Overall, it’s not been too bad. It was the first major highway we were on,” remarked Tim Hart from Torresdale.

With only a few cancellations at Philadelphia International Airport on Saturday, travelers there shared similar sentiments.

“Actually, it’s been quite pleasant. People have been quite friendly, spirits are high. Last year was a bit of a mess, but this year has been wonderfully calm,” noted Breanna Burgess from Malvern, Pa.

Philadelphia International Airport anticipated 1.36 million travelers from December 20 to January 4. This figure represents a 13.5% increase compared to last year. Tomorrow, the airport expects about 94,000 passengers. “We’ve been very fortunate thus far; this is our second stop on a cross-country journey and we haven’t encountered any delays yet,” said Michael Wachcel from Santa Barbara, California.

For those traveling on the roads this Sunday, AAA advises that the worst time to travel is between noon and 6 PM.

Your best option is to set out before 11 AM.
