CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference resumes the swimming and diving season following a two-week hiatus, with five conference members diving into action over three days, January 3-5.

North Carolina, NC State, and SMU are set to make their way to Athens, Georgia, for the UGA Diving Invitational from Friday to Sunday. In their previous outing, the Mustangs’ Luke Sitz, John Dymond, and Grant Cates participated on the men’s side at the USA Diving Winter Nationals in Bloomington, Indiana, while Regan Evans, Jaclynn Fowler, and Sadie Klepfer competed on the women’s side.

 

Virginia Tech will journey to Charlotte, North Carolina, to face Queens University on Friday before hosting South Carolina on Saturday. During the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming Championships, Carles Coll Marti from Virginia Tech was awarded the title of World Champion in the 200m breaststroke (2:01.55) and established a national record in the 100 IM with a time of 51.50.

 

Louisville will compete against Missouri on Friday. Previously, both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams from Louisville participated in the Ohio State Invitational, where the men secured second place and the women claimed third.

Noting ACC Swimming and Diving

• The ACC featured eight teams in the latest CSCAA Division I Women’s Top 25 Poll, led by Virginia at No. 1 and Stanford at No. 3. Louisville, NC State, and Cal completed the top 10 in positions No. 8, No. 9, and No. 10 respectively. North Carolina was ranked at No. 17, with Duke at No. 20 and Florida State at No. 25.
• In the most recent CSCAA Division I Men’s Top 25 Poll, the ACC had 10 teams represented, highlighted by California at No. 5, NC State at No. 6, Stanford at No. 8, and Louisville at No. 10 within the top 10. North Carolina secured No. 12, Virginia No. 17, Virginia Tech No. 19, Georgia Tech No. 21, Florida State No. 22, and SMU No. 25.
• At the 2024 World Aquatics 25m Championships, Virginia amassed 10 World Championship titles and established 11 Individual World Records, three Relay World Records, and 18 American Records.
  • Gretchen Walsh from Virginia alone set nine Individual World Records alongside two Relay World Records and 12 American Records.

• The 2024-25 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held from February 18-22 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
• Boston College began the 2024 season under the new guidance of head swimming and diving coach Dara Torres. Torres is a five-time Olympian, six-time World Record holder, and a four-time gold medalist.
• Dario di Fazio has been appointed the head diving coach for Miami as of 2024. Di Fazio has served as the assistant diving coach at Miami for the last 28 years.
• Stanford’s women’s swimming and diving program has the distinction of being the sole team in the nation to have finished in the top 10 in every NCAA Championship since the 1975-76 season.
• During the 2024 Paris Olympics, student-athletes from ACC swimming and diving brought back 18 gold medals, 22 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals for Team USA. David Betlehem from NC State earned a bronze medal for Hungary.
