GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Funeral preparations have been disclosed for a young man who lost his life in a mishap at an amusement park in Greenville.

A memorial service will take place for Sewell on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. at Rock of Ages Baptist Church. He will be interred at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office have announced that an inquiry is ongoing following the unfortunate event at Frankie’s Fun Park.
As reported by the sheriff’s office, the incident transpired on Friday involving a forklift and a go-cart at the location, 45 Park Woodruff Drive.
Emergency services received a 911 call at 11:43 a.m.
The coroner confirmed that 17-year-old Kamel Seveion Sewell from Simpsonville was deceased as a result of the crash. Sewell was working at the park.
Sewell was driving the go-cart at the time it collided with an industrial forklift, which was also operated by a park worker.
On Sunday, the coroner stated that Sewell’s cause of death was blunt-force trauma to the head. The incident has been classified as accidental.
Frankie’s Fun Park issued the following statement concerning the event:
“Frankie’s Fun Park of Greenville deeply regrets to inform that on Friday, December 27th, a devastating accident took place resulting in the death of Seveion Sewell, 17. Seveion was a staff member at Frankie’s for over a year. At this moment, Frankie’s is cooperating with both law enforcement and OSHA. Once the circumstances and contributing factors of the accident are identified, further information will be shared, as appropriate. It is with profound sadness that we convey this news. Please keep Seveion and his family in your thoughts.” Sewell was in the 11th grade at Fountain Inn High School.
Greenville County schools extended their heartfelt sympathies to Sewell’s family and the wider school community.
Ryan James, the attorney for the Sewell family, issued the following statement:
“The family is in profound grief. I would honestly describe their state as heart-wrenched. After meeting with them this morning, it became evident they seek answers. They truly deserve that much. As the day progressed, my office has begun the journey of gathering facts, focusing on the causes and the ‘who’. As we advance in this matter, we will provide updates. At this moment, the family requests privacy as they process the loss of their beloved one.”
