MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men’s swimming & diving squad suffered a defeat against Babson on Saturday, ending with a score of 193.5-94.5 at Morse Pool. The Cardinals now hold a record of 0-5 in dual encounters this winter, while the Beavers enhance their record to 5-2 for the season.
 
Wesleyan achieved four triumphs across the 16 events contested at Babson, with Harrison Hong ’25 securing three of those wins. The senior star Hong commenced his day by clinching first place in the 100 butterfly (50.41 seconds), later contributing with a win in the 100 backstroke (52.10), and capturing his third victory with a time of 53.81 in the 100 individual medley.
 
The remaining first place finisher for the Cardinals was Brody Schrepfer ’28, who dominated the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:53.12.
 
David Kantar ’25 participated in three second-place finishes, taking second in the 50 backstroke (26.48) and 100 freestyle (51.34), while partnering with Schrepfer, Collin Holson ’25, and Nathan Wu ’28 to achieve a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a combined time of 3:19.63.
 
Fritz Bretall ’25, alongside Hong, Schrepfer, and Wu, placed second, finishing just 0.32 seconds behind Babson’s lead team in the 200 medley, as Wesleyan’s assembly recorded a time of 1:37.74. Bretall later added a second-place result in the 50 backstroke with a timing of 26.48.
 
Two additional second-place finishers for the day were Hartmut Doerwaldt ’25, who completed the 1000 freestyle in 10:47.30, and Wu, who competed in the 100 breaststroke, finishing runner-up with a time of 1:00.28.
 
Wesleyan’s next competition is a home dual meet against Trinity on Wednesday, January 15 at 4 PM.
