Waves Ride to Victory: Securing Their Maiden Conference Win in Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. – Three Waves tallied double-digit points as the Pepperdine men’s basketball squad celebrated a 17-point victory over Pacific on Saturday afternoon.
 
This outcome marks the first away triumph of the 2024-25 season and the inaugural win in West Coast Conference action for the Waves (7-10, 1-3 WCC).

 

BIG WAVES

• Stefan Todorovic (Belgrade, Serbia/SMU/USF) enjoyed an outstanding shooting night, achieving a 29-point game with 10-of-13 field goal shooting and 7-of-8 from beyond the arc. Additionally, he secured six rebounds and made two steals.
• Jaxon Olvera (Houston, Texas/Golden State Prep) set a new personal best with 19 points while shooting 8-for-13 from the field.
• Moe Odum (The Bronx, N.Y./Pacific) recorded a double-double in his homecoming match of sorts, scoring 15 points and distributing 11 assists while accumulating six boards and two steals.

 
KEY STATS

• Pepperdine had an exceptional shooting performance, connecting at .574 from the field and .429 from three-point territory. In the second half alone, the Waves shot 64% from the field, and 61.5% from three.
• In a rare achievement, the Waves outscored Pacific in the paint, notching 26 compared to the Tigers’ 22.
• The Waves also shared the basketball more efficiently than Pacific, with an assist ratio of 21-13.

RECAP

The two teams exchanged baskets during the early moments until the 12-minute mark when the score was tied at 16-all, with no field goals witnessed until approximately four minutes later when Dovydas Butka scored thanks to an assist from Odum. The Waves maintained the lead from that point as Todorovic, Olvera, and Odum alternated scoring while limiting the Tigers to merely 21.4% from three-point territory. Todorovic netted his fourth three-pointer of the half with just seconds remaining, propelling Pepperdine into halftime with 20 points and a 12-point lead.

 

The second half witnessed even better shooting from Pepperdine, as Olvera and Todorovic hit consecutive threes to extend the advantage while the Waves did not ease up. The highlight of the evening came around the 14-minute mark, as Odum spotted a rim-running Boubacar Coulibaly and lobbed an alley-oop from nearly half court. Coulibaly caught the pass and threw down the dunk effortlessly, sending the Waves’ bench into cheers. Danilo Dozic eventually wanted to join in on the excitement, sinking two three-pointers with eight minutes remaining as Pepperdine secured an 87-70 victory in Stockton.
