WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — The men’s swimming and diving team at Bridgewater State University reinitiated its season with a 184-78 defeat against Little East Conference (LEC) rival Eastern Connecticut State University.

Freshman Matthew Jo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and junior Desmond Ng (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia) both triumphed in one event each and secured second place in another for the Bears on Wednesday afternoon.

BSU had been inactive since hosting the BSU Invitational on December 7 and had not participated in a dual meet since losing to Clark University on November 23.

The Bears returned from a training expedition to Puerto Rico earlier this week.

Jo achieved first place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.05 and came in second for the 1,600 freestyle in 11:05.83.

Ng emerged victorious in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:16.26, and secured second place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:10.25.

The only other BSU victor was sophomore Jirat Saengthong (Watertown, Mass.) in the 200 freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:53.54.

Senior Thomas Roch (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed third in both the 50 freestyle (23.17) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.84).

Freshman Dylan Kelley (Foxborough, Mass.) claimed second place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:08.59.

Senior Cameron Stringfellow (Wrentham, Mass.) finished third in the 1,000 freestyle, while senior Owen Lasbury-Casey (Mansfield, Mass.) took third in the 100 backstroke, and freshman Caleb Perron (Belchertown, Mass.) was third in the 200 backstroke.

The Bears are scheduled to participate in a tri-meet in New Hampshire on Saturday at noon alongside host Keene State College and Brandeis University.
