Unleashing the Spirit of Marquette: A Journey Through University Athletics

The No. 7/7 Marquette University men’s basketball squad (15-2, 6-0 BIG EAST) continued its BIG EAST Conference journey with an 85-83 overtime triumph against DePaul (9-8, 0-6 BIG EAST) on Tuesday night at Wintrust Arena.

Senior forward David Joplin achieved a personal-best of 30 points, while senior guard Kam Jones contributed 18 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds.

Over his last three appearances at Wintrust Arena, Joplin has successfully shot 25-of-41 (60.9 percent) from the field in total and 21-of-32 (65.6 percent) from beyond the three-point arc.

In a contest where the Golden Eagles managed just 42.6 percent shooting from the field, a tightly contested second half came down to the final moments. MU was behind for most of the last minutes, but a three-pointer from Chase Ross gave MU a two-point lead with eight seconds remaining. The Blue Demons equalized with a driving layup to force overtime, but the Golden Eagles would later lead by as many as 10 points before securing the win.

The Golden Eagles held a lead of up to 11 points during the first half after making 6-of-9 shots in the early stages of the game; however, the Blue Demons countered with a 13-3 run and eventually claimed the lead in the final minutes of the first half. DePaul shot 59.3 percent from the field at halftime, leading 40-39 at the break.

• Marquette advanced to 6-0 in BIG EAST competition, marking its best start since 2008-09 (9-0)
• Tonight’s matchup was Marquette’s first OT game since overcoming Villanova in the 2024 BIG EAST tournament
• Kam Jones collected his fourth career double-double, all occurring this season
• Forward Ben Gold wrapped up the night with 14 points and matched his career-high with four three-pointers
• Gold’s 14 points were his highest total since scoring 14 against Georgia
