Bradford Unveils Exciting Crime Drama Premiering on Its Streets!

A fresh BBC crime series will debut in Bradford during the City of Culture year.

Virdee narrates the tale of a police investigator who has become disconnected from his Sikh family after marrying a Muslim woman.

Harry Virdee, portrayed by Staz Nair, must navigate gang conflicts that erupt onto the streets of Bradford.

The show is adapted from the novels of A A Dhand, who stated: “It has been a privilege and honor to write and produce this series set in my hometown of Bradford.”

Filming for the drama took place throughout the Bradford area, where Dhand was raised. He served as a pharmacist prior to authoring his first book.

He remarked: “I have always felt that the city is ideal for a sophisticated TV series, one that highlights its heritage, magnificence, and diversity, and I believe we have crafted something quite exceptional and unique.

“I have invested my passion and dedication into creating this show and hope this marks the beginning of a tremendously prosperous year for Bradford, particularly with it being the 2025 UK City of Culture.”

Katrina Bunker, head of BBC Yorkshire, expressed: “We are extremely proud to host another significant BBC drama produced in Yorkshire.

“Virdee is an engaging, ambitious, and thrilling tale, and the timing of its release couldn’t be better with this year being of great significance for Bradford.

“It’s particularly wonderful that many of the individuals who contributed to the drama were sourced from local communities.”

Bradford, designated as the City of Culture for 2025, commenced the celebrations on Friday with its inaugural event at Centenary Square.

The debut is scheduled for 6 February at St George’s Hall. Tickets will be distributed via random draw, with 80% set aside for Bradford and West Yorkshire postcodes.
