Women’s Swim Team Makes Waves with Dominant Victory Over Stevens

SALISBURY, Md. – The start of the new year failed to slow down the Salisbury University women’s swimming squad, who returned to competition by breaking 11 pool records and achieving their 14th straight home dual victory, 226-72 against the Stevens Ducks, on Friday afternoon at Maggs Pool.
 
MEET HIGHLIGHTS

• Sydney McCallie spearheaded the team with four gold medals, securing individual titles in the 100-meter backstroke (1:05.67) and 400-meter individual medley (4:59.96).
• Mackenzie Gula won three golds and one silver, triumphing in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.01) and 200-meter individual medley (2:22.42).
• Sadie Hebert secured five medals, clinching gold in the 200-meter butterfly (2:25.02), silver in the 100-meter backstroke (1:06.80), and bronze in the 100-meter butterfly (1:05.72).
• Alexa Hilty earned medals in three events, achieving gold in the 100-meter freestyle (1:01.00) and silver in the 50-meter freestyle (27.72).
• Samantha Watson became a three-time medalist, finishing first individually in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:45.72) and second in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:15.47).
• The Sea Gulls’ A-teams triumphed in all three relay events. The 200-meter medley team of Delaney Gibbons, Watson, Hebert, and Hilty opened with a gold-winning time of 2:00.76.
• In the 200-meter freestyle relay, McCallie, Lily Griffin, Gula, and Elizabeth Perry clocked in at 1:48.69, nearly five seconds ahead of their nearest rivals.
• The 400-meter freestyle relay assembly of McCallie, Hebert, Perry, and Rachel Rickabaugh finished over nine seconds quicker than the competition, taking gold in 4:02.36.
• SU concluded the meet with a total of 34 medals, comprising 15 gold, 13 silver, and six bronze.

The Sea Gulls are set to compete for the final time in the regular season on Saturday, Jan. 25 against Catholic. The first events at Maggs Pool are slated for 1 p.m., and Senior Day celebrations will take place before the meet begins.
