SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The No. 13 women’s swimming squad from Swarthmore College achieved a prominent 170-92 triumph against No. 10 Johns Hopkins University during Senior Day at Ware Pool.
 
This represented the Garnet’s initial victory over the Blue Jays, a regular national powerhouse, since 1996. Furthermore, this win marked Swarthmore’s 36th successive dual-meet triumph.
 
Five individuals from the Garnet secured two victories each, namely Sophie Rotival, Annaliese Chen, Quinn Weygandt, Ava Craig, and Genine Collins. Swarthmore also secured first place in both the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays. The Garnet established two pool records and achieved three NCAA B-cut times in the process of this win.
 
Before the competition, the Garnet honored their seniors: Chen, Ursula Horn, Georgi Mathews, Sophie Rodner, Lauren Rohde, Rotival, Erin Szuromi, and Mackenzie Tucker.

 

HOW IT UNFOLDED

– Swarthmore took all top four positions in the 200 butterfly, led by Chen, who clocked a NCAA B cut time of 2:03.90 for the top spot. Weygandt (2:05.14), Mirabel Fernald (2:07.60), and Rohde (2:08.52) secured the other top four positions. Fernald’s time marked a personal record and ranks seventh in the program’s history.

 

– Chen also triumphed in the 100 butterfly with a record time at Ware Pool of 56.39. This performance stands as the sixth-best in the program’s history. Weygandt finished first in both the 200 (2:05.86) and 400 (4:21.75) individual medley. The junior’s 400 IM time established a new Ware Pool record and qualified as a NCAA B cut. Chen finished second (2:08.28) behind Weygandt in the 200 IM.

 

– Rotival achieved a NCAA B-cut time of 1:03.34 to take first in the 100 breaststroke. She also secured victory in the 200 breast (2:21.05). Ava Craig produced a pair of top-five swims in the program’s history, winning both the 200 (1:52.81) and 500 (5:03.69) freestyles. Her time in the 200 free ranks second and her 500 free time is fourth-best.

 

– Collins dominated the 50 and 100 freestyles with winning times of 23.62 and 51.76, respectively. The sophomore also achieved second place (56.98) in the 100 butterfly. The 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Collins, Rotival, Szuromi, and Elle Anthony recorded the fifth-best time in the program’s history, triumphing in the event with a time of 1:35.18.

 

– Swarthmore also emerged victorious in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Maya Ambardekar, Rotival, Norah Rutkowski, and Anthony finished with a time of 1:45.37. Anthony had a couple of individual second-place finishes, coming second in both the 50 (23.79) and 100 (51.82) freestyles. Rohde finished second (4:33.88) in the 400 IM while Szuromi was runner-up (57.38) in the 100 backstroke.

 

Kate Hallmark swam the 200 backstroke in 2:05.19, earning her third place. This performance ranks third all-time in the program’s history. Cara Dominici finished third (1:06.30) in the 100 breaststroke. Dominici and Rutkowski secured third (2:09.46) and fourth (2:09.54) respectively in the 200 IM, finalizing a top-four Garnet sweep in the event following Weygandt and Chen.
