SAN ANTONIO (January 20, 2025) — As a precaution for ongoing sub-zero temperatures, the likelihood of sleet and ice during the night, along with the Winter Storm Warning issued for the region, the City of San Antonio will shutter certain public facilities and modify non-essential operations on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
The municipality encourages residents to remain at home unless travel is unavoidable. If it is necessary to go out, please proceed with care, particularly on potentially icy roads.
City personnel necessary for sustaining essential functions, including Police, Fire, Public Works, Animal Care Services Enforcement, 311, and the City’s Homeless Outreach Teams, will be on duty and report as scheduled. All non-essential personnel capable of remote work will do so.
Moreover, all City meetings planned for January 21, 2025, are canceled.
The winter storm is leading to flight delays and cancellations throughout the United States, affecting multiple flights at San Antonio International Airport (SAT).
The City of San Antonio opened designated overnight Resilience Hubs at 6 p.m. on Monday, January 20, to provide residents with a secure, warm place to reside. The resilience hubs will stay operational the entire day on Tuesday. These hubs supply shelter from the cold, essential supplies, charging power for devices, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Residents are advised to bring clothing, supplies, and medication. Kennels will be available for pets in a designated area. For location details, visit SA.gov/ColdWeather.
In addition to the overnight resilience hubs, the following venues will serve as Places to Stay Warm during daylight hours on Tuesday, January 21.
For additional information, please contact 311 Customer Service at 3-1-1 or 210-207-6000. The 311 Call Center will be available 24/7 starting Monday.
VIA passengers can travel fare-free to or from these locations utilizing VIA bus service or VIA Link (within the Link service zones). Riders should inform the bus operator when boarding; VIAtrans passengers should notify the reservation agent when arranging a VIAtrans trip.
The City of San Antonio’s Department of Human Services (DHS) is collaborating with community partners to continue to provide temporary overnight shelter space for neighbors facing homelessness. The following places will be accessible:
The City’s Street Outreach Team and Community Connections Hotline (210-207-1799) are operational 24/7 to assist our unhoused neighbors. The hotline provides current information on warming centers and shelters and will connect unsheltered neighbors with resources, including transport to shelters and supplies for cold weather. DHS will facilitate transportation to overnight shelters. Animal Care Services has provided kennels to ensure pets are kept safely at the shelters.
