Turner Shines Bright: RMAC Swimmer of the Week Honors Awarded!

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.  LynDea Turner from Western Colorado has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s women’s swimmer of the week, according to an announcement made Wednesday afternoon by the league office.

Turner achieved the high-point award during the Mountaineers’ triumphant weekend at the Colorado College Classic.

She secured first-place results in two individual competitions, anchored two winning relay teams, and added a pair of second-place results, totaling 74 points throughout the three-day Classic.

Turner triumphed in the 200-yard backstroke in Day 2’s championship session, finishing with a time of 2 minutes, 13.06 seconds, and later clinched the 100 back in the finals session on Sunday afternoon, recording a victorious time of 1:01.46.

She started Western’s victorious 400 medley relay team (4:08.00; with a 1:01.99 backstroke split) on Saturday night and did likewise on Sunday for the winning 200 medley relay team (1:52.96; with a 29.97 seconds backstroke split).

In the first individual competition that followed the relay on Saturday, Turner finished in second place in the 200 individual medley (2:19.17), and then matched that accomplishment on Sunday, placing second in the 400 IM (4:52.25) shortly after leading off the champion 200 medley relay.

Turner and her fellow Mountaineer teammates earned the team championship at the Classic, amassing 1,259.5 points to outpace the host Tigers (946 pts.) who finished in second place.

Western Colorado will welcome Adams State University on Saturday for a final preparation before the RMAC swimming & diving championship meet in Grand Junction, Colo., from Feb. 11-15.
