An architect by accident captured the second a pod of dolphins have been enjoying within the water whereas attending to grips with a brand new drone in Devon. Thomas Russell had just lately purchased a drone for work so as to seize aerial footage of buildings.

He was training with the brand new gadget off the coast at Dawlish when he captured a pod of dolphins leaping out of the water. “I had the drone out over the bay capturing some landscape in the evening light for practice. I’d just brought the drone in and was about to go for dinner when I spotted movement in the water,” stated Thomas.

He added that it was a “golden opportunity” as he aimed to recreate the magic of a well-known David Attenborough TV sequence.

“We soon saw that there was a whole pod out there enjoying themselves. I had the drone in my hand and realised I needed to get out there asap,” Thomas stated.

“I couldn’t believe what a golden opportunity it was. The pod spent the next hour or so playing in the bay as I tried my best to re-enact a sequence from Blue Planet,” he added.

Thomas turned his footage from Dawlish right into a cinematic video showcasing all that he noticed off the coast that day and posted it to his YouTube account.

The video exhibits the trainline at Dawlish in addition to the gorgeous shoreline. Dolphins could be seen leaping out of the water, leaving good ripples of their wake. The seagulls and birds souring above them actually captures Devon’s coastal magnificence.

The encounter made Thomas realise that filming a wildlife documentary should be quite a bit tougher than he ever thought, and stated he’d have to develop his abilities. Thomas was advised by locals that seeing dolphins within the bay at Dawlish is a ‘unique opportunity’, one which he’s glad he didn’t miss.
