NASA’s Psyche Pictures Earth and Moon

Scientists on the imaging group, led by Arizona State University, captured a number of long-exposure (as much as 10-second) footage of the 2 our bodies, which seem as dots glowing with mirrored daylight amid a starfield within the constellation Aries. The observations assist the group decide how the cameras reply to photo voltaic system objects that shine by mirrored daylight, similar to the Psyche asteroid.

In January 2025, Psyche captured an image that included Mars, Jupiter, and the Jovian moons Io, Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa.

The important picture right here was captured by Psyche’s main digicam, Imager A, on July 23; Figure A was captured by the backup digicam, Imager B, on July 20. Both pictures are annotated with labels indicating Earth, the Moon, and several other stars.

The Psyche mission is led by ASU. Lindy Elkins-Tanton of the University of California, Berkeley is the principal investigator. A division of Caltech in Pasadena, JPL is liable for the mission’s total administration, system engineering, integration and check, and mission operations. Maxar Technologies in Palo Alto, California, offered the high-power photo voltaic electrical propulsion spacecraft chassis. ASU leads the operations of the imager instrument, working in collaboration with Malin Space Science Systems in San Diego on the design, fabrication, and testing of the cameras.

Psyche is the 14th mission chosen as a part of a NASA’s Discovery Program, managed by the company’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. NASA’s Launch Services Program, primarily based on the Kennedy Space Center, managed the launch service.
