Rorick Leads Ladies to Fourth-Place End as Cross Country Tops Huskers at Woody Greeno

LINCOLN, Neb. — Taylor Rorick posted her second straight top-10 end to guide the Creighton Cross Country groups on the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invite on Saturday at Mahoney Park Golf Course in Lincoln.

“We had solid performance from both teams and some standout individual results,” stated Creighton head coach Chris Gannon. 

Rorick positioned fourth in 17:53.05 on the 5K course, 15 days after she completed ninth on the Platte River Rumble “Gold” race. Trailing Rorick on the Bluejay facet had been freshmen Reyna Heisserer (18:25.84) in twentieth place and  Atlee Wallman (18:37.92) in twenty eighth place. Rounding out CU’s scoring line-up had been Alexis Leone (thirty ninth; 18:56.16) and Anika Nettekoven (forty first; 18:56.49).

Northern Colorado’s Regina Mpigachai received the 235-person ladies’s race in 17:08.94, cruising to victory over the likes of Wichita State’s Lucy Ndungu (17:42.37), Missouri’s Charlotte Cullen (17:51.43) and Rorick.

“Tay had a fantastic race, the best race of her career thus far,” stated Gannon. “She executed well and fought off a challenge late. Reyna and Atlee both handled a much bigger race well. Alexis, Anika, Soph and Kath had improved performances from two weeks ago.”

Missouri received the ladies’s race with 76 factors, edging Nebraska-Kearney’s 93 for the workforce title. Wichita State (94) positioned third, whereas Creighton (127) and Northwest Missouri State (132) rounded out the highest 5 within the 22-team race. Nebraska (192) took seventh and Omaha (224) was eighth.

The CU males positioned eighth within the 23-team discipline with 222 factors, ending forward of occasion co-hosts Nebraska (twelfth; 342 factors) and Nebraska Wesleyan (thirteenth; 350 factors). Wichita State and Missouri each positioned 4 runners within the high 10, with the Shockers (35) edging Mizzou (49) by 14 factors for the workforce title. Air Force, which entered the day ranked twenty fourth nationally, completed in third place with 53 factors.

“Overall the group running their first 8k handled it well, added Gannon. “Our males’s workforce ran a a lot tighter pack, right down to a 34 second unfold via our scoring 5. Wichita State’s Elkana Kipruto (23:55.73) topped the field of 316 competitors, finishing ahead of Mizzou’s  Elijah Limo (24:13.74) to win the men’s race.
