Dan Crenshaw disputes report he was banned from international journey

U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw disputed a news report Wednesday that the chair of the House Select Committee on Intelligence banned him from touring following an incident on a journey to Mexico in August.

According to a Punchbowl News story based on anonymous sources, throughout drinks one night, a Mexican official made a “crude joke” that made one of many ladies current uncomfortable. Crenshaw, a Houston Republican who chairs the choose committee’s Subcommittee on Defense Intelligence & Overhead Architecture, reportedly toasted the remark, prompting Rep. Rick Crawford, an Arkansas Republican who chairs the choose committee, to block him from touring on the committee’s behalf for 3 months.

In a social media post Wednesday, Crenshaw mentioned he had “big problems with this clickbait story,” including the House Ethics Committee had cleared him for a visit in October that was finally cancelled as a result of authorities shutdown.

“Once again, we are dealing with the usual media  playbook of publishing sensational stories based on anonymous sources and incorrect facts,” he wrote.

Crawford’s congressional workplace and the choose committee on intelligence didn’t reply to requests for remark Thursday.

Punchbowl News stood by its report Thursday, mentioning that the House Ethics Committee solely indicators off on journeys paid for by exterior teams, not committee-sanctioned journey.

“Crenshaw was barred from international taxpayer travel for 90 days by the chair of his committee,” wrote Jake Sherman, founding father of Punchbowl.

Crenshaw’s workplace confirmed that the October journey was to Lebanon and paid for by the non-profit American Task Force on Lebanon.

The workplace declined to touch upon whether or not Crenshaw had been positioned below a journey ban by Crawford.
