Delta Flight 5087, Bombardier CRJ-900, skids off icy runway at Des Moines airport as snow snarls post-Thanksgiving journey

A cross-country storm dumping snow throughout the Midwest has led to a whole bunch of canceled flights and automobile crashes amid the post-Thanksgiving journey rush.

In one terrifying incident for air vacationers, a Delta Connection flight with 54 passengers and a crew of 4 skidded off an icy runway on the Des Moines International Airport in a single day, in line with Sarah Hoodjer, the airport’s communications supervisor.

The incident occurred round 9:30 p.m. native time as Flight 5087, operated by Endeavor Air and originating in Detroit, was touchdown on the airport, in line with a press release from Delta Air Lines.

The plane, a Bombardier CRJ-900, “left the paved surface of the taxiway due to icy conditions upon landing,” in line with the Delta assertion. No accidents have been reported and passengers have been evacuated from the plane and bused to a terminal, in line with Delta.

Hoodjer stated the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.

In a press release, Delta airways stated: “Delta teams at Des Moines International Airport are working to ensure our customers are taken care of after Delta Connection flight 5087 operated by Endeavor Air left the paved surface of the taxiway due to icy conditions upon landing. Safety comes before all else and we apologize to our customers for the experience.”
