A clearly moved Solberg mirrored: “It’s when you look at the roster of the people who’s maybe won [this rally] in the last 20 years, you know, it’s only four people or something. And Loeb sent me a long, fantastic message and that means a lot.”

As did the victory itself.

Starting his first full season in a Rally1 automobile, Solberg didn’t have a lot to show after that gorgeous victory in Estonia final yr. But no one anticipated one other victory to come back so quickly. Not right here, on a rally dominated by Sébastien Ogier on this period.

“I don’t know what to say,” Solberg stated. “It’s just a dream come true. Well, it wasn’t a dream really because I never thought it was possible! My dream was top five, top three or something like that, and then ending up right here as a winner of the most difficult rally ever and the most historic rally ever, it’s just… phwoar, mind-blowing.

“The expectations was to have fun, you know, do my rhythm, drive as good as I could, and I had a great feeling in the car,” the 24-year-old added. “The staff has been so useful and nice to make me comfy as soon as once more, like in Estonia.
