Under Ballou Skies Golf Classic tees up 12 months 12 of enjoyable and fundraising for ALS

Golf, giggles, and giving again are all on the tee once more because the Under Ballou Skies Golf Classic and Party returns for its twelfth 12 months subsequent month.

“I joined the board for the ALS Association back in 2015, and they told me I had to raise $1,500, and I was like, ‘Uh oh, I’d never fundraised before. Am I gonna have a bake sale? I don’t know, what do we do?’ And, so we started this golf tournament, and the first year we raised $14,000, which I thought was an inordinate amount of money, and we went from 14,000 to 30, to 40,000 to 60, to 70,000.”

The vent was nicely on its approach to turning into a mainstay on the Central Texas fundraising calendar.

“After that fourth year, we thought, what can we do to go bigger? So we moved it from a Monday golf tournament to a Friday golf tournament and a Friday night party, and then it raised 154,000 that first year. And this year we expect to go over the $2 million mark for 12 years.”

Attendees can plan a full day of actions, beginning with golf within the morning and adopted by a celebration within the night.

The event helps the ALS Association and its essential mission.

“To see the progress that we’re making in ALS. They’re making breakthroughs now. They’re slowing the progression. In some cases, they’re reversing the progression of ALS. There are some amazing stories out there. Probably 50 to 60,000 people are diagnosed a year, about 15 a day. Wow. And so, and it’s usually your life span is usually about 3 to 5 years. So if we can get it early and start slowing that progression, they think that’s going to make, you know, a year from now, but hopefully lead to a cure one day.”
