Trevino Honored as SEC Freshman Diver of the Year – Texas A&M Athletics

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M’s Emilio Trevino capped off a historic 2025-26 season by being named SEC Freshman Diver of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday.

 

Trevino delivered a strong first season in Aggieland, highlighted by capturing the NCAA Championship in the platform dive. He was Texas A&M’s first platform national champion and the first freshman diver to win a NCAA title. Trevino, from Monterrey, Mexico, scored a season-best 465.30 to outclass the NCAA field, topping the next highest finisher by over 14 points. He posted 70-point plus scores on five-of-six dives and close out his dominating victory with scores of 85.00 and 92.50 on his final two efforts.

 

“I am extremely happy,” Trevino said. “I feel that over the past few days, I have continued to receive a lot of congratulations, and now being named the best in the SEC simply reflects the work I have put in throughout the year – all the sacrifices, the injuries and those days when my body felt like it couldn’t give any more.”

 

Trevino credited those around him for helping him reach this milestone.

 

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for granting me my health and another day of life,” Trevino added. “I’m incredibly grateful to my parents—they are my reason for living, and my greatest motivation is making them proud. I also want to thank everyone at Texas A&M for believing in me from the very beginning. To my coaches, for always pushing for what’s best for me; to the athletic training staff, who help me manage my injuries; to Carter (Spexarth) for making my academic life easier; and to my teammates for their constant support—thank you.”
