Photographer Mahtah Hussain has been engaged on his long-term undertaking Muslims in America since 2021. Travelling throughout the US, he has spent numerous hours chronicling the lives of extraordinary Muslims.
“For years, many Muslims felt they needed to be invisible to survive. But, two decades on, a new generation is not hiding, wanting to be seen and understood, and who are shaping their styles and identities in distinctly American ways,” he says.
Hussain is now fundraising to finance additional work on the undertaking, with the goal of visiting extra cities. His intention is to “make visible the powerful idea of umma that connects Muslims across geography and background”.
