THE 2022 AAF BUFFALO AWARDS
THE 2022 AAF BUFFALO AWARDS
Sometimes it solely takes the seed of an incredible thought to get me taken with a undertaking. And I believe that deep down, the crew at Mower knew that once they requested me to create a sequence of portraits to advertise the 2022 AAF Buffalo Awards present.
All it took to persuade me was one phrase — Whodunnit?
My head crammed with recollections of Jonathan Lynn’s movie model of Clue, the nice parlor scenes in basic detective novels, and fashionable interpretations of the style like Rian Johnson’s Knives Out — there was rather a lot to sink my tooth into right here. Beyond all of the fabulous inspiration media I might get to dive into, I used to be excited to create some entertaining character-driven portraits of a few of my native promoting neighborhood colleagues.
We based mostly the characters on this sequence on numerous tropes from the advert world. For instance, the author grew to become the intimidating Ms. Whitepaper, the company intern grew to become the murderous Anna Prentice, and the video producer grew to become the maybe too unstable auteur Rolland Cut. We received to play with a number of concepts pulled from sources like Murder On The Orient Express, Seven, and the aforementioned Clue.
We shot all the portraits, a large group composite, and several other ancillary images in a single day at the Buffalo Club. This sizeable private club has been operating in the city for over one hundred and fifty years. The building is gorgeous and was the perfect setting for the little mystery we were producing.
You can see the whole awards program book here. And be sure to check out all of the winners (I may be named in there once or twice… but we’ll talk about that in a future post!)
