For PSM, Confluence is amongst its most prestigious annual programmes. “Every year, members of the club from around the world submit their photographs depending on the topics of the year, from which we select the photographs for display,” says GN Ramaswami, Chairman, Salons & Exhibitions.
The exhibition’s legacy is equally outstanding. Founded in 1857 by Alexander Hunter and Walter Elliot, the Photographic Society of Madras is considered the world’s second-oldest photographic membership. Established only some years after the invention of images itself, the society has continued to nurture generations of photographers whereas adapting to the altering media.
Retired photojournalist Rajashekar HK, who has been a membership member for a few years, says Confluence is a good way to carry collectively photographers from around the globe. “After my retirement, I have continued with my passion for photography; it feels nice to see that on display every year.”
The exhibition additionally pays tribute to 2 senior members of the Photographic Society of Madras, Ramanidharan R and Vivekanandan PA, who’re remembered for his or her contributions and assist to the membership over time.
