Nine Mustangs Named CRCA Scholar-Athletes

Wilmington, Del. (CRCA/SMU) – Nine members of the SMU rowing group have been named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar-Athletes, the group introduced in a launch on Friday.

The Mustangs who acquired this prestigious honor embrace Ruby Čop, Tabitha Hall, Saylor Kercher, Kate Kulig, Francesca La Marca, Emma Mehner, Annabelle New, Tara Phelan and Sydney Stuelpe.

The CRCA Scholar-Athlete Awards rejoice the dedication, self-discipline and educational achievement of student-athletes who compete in a demanding collegiate sport whereas sustaining distinctive educational efficiency.

“I am extremely grateful to be selected as a CRCA Scholar-Athlete,” defined graduate scholar Tara Phelan, “Balancing athletic performance with academics has always been a priority for me and I firmly believe that the two complement one another.”

Graduate scholar Ruby Čop shares the same sentiment. “Being recognized as a CRCA Scholar Athlete is incredibly meaningful because it validates the ‘dual career’ mindset I’ve prioritized throughout my 11 years in rowing…as a Master’s student, I have seen firsthand how the discipline, time management and resilience that are required in the boat are the exact same traits that drive excellence in the classroom.”

This 12 months’s honorees as an entire averaged a powerful GPA above 3.59, with 76 student-athletes reaching an ideal 4.0. To be eligible for CRCA Scholar-Athlete recognition, student-athletes should meet all institutional and convention eligibility necessities, be of their second, third, fourth or fifth 12 months of eligibility and maintain a cumulative grade-point common of three.50 or larger via the top of the autumn semester or winter quarter of the present educational 12 months. Athletically, nominees will need to have rowed in no less than 75 % of spring races in an NCAA or IRA light-weight eligible boat or raced in an NCAA boat at their convention championship or nationwide championship.
