Threads of Transformation: Diné Weaving Across Genders

This thematic exhibition brings collectively 9 queer and non-binary Diné weavers throughout three generations, every of whom navigates, honors, and expands Navajo weaving traditions by their very own distinct inventive practices. Although the visible language of the artists varies broadly, they share a dedication to weaving as each a way of cultural upkeep and a radical expression. For generations, Diné weaving has been framed as ladies’s work: an thought formed not solely by oral histories and neighborhood practices, but in addition by colonial frameworks. While this narrative attracts from the matrilineal construction of Diné society, it typically obscures a extra expansive and queerer lineage. This exhibition is organized by visitor curators Moonoka Begay, Sháńdíín Brown, and Zach Feuer.
