Go on a nostalgic journey by way of a images exhibit on the airport

The Dane County Regional Airport might not be the place you’d anticipate an exhibit on a distinct type of mass transportation. However, “Faces of Railroading: Railroading and the Making of Madison and Dane County” within the airport’s Artwork Courtroom takes viewers on a nostalgic journey.

The images assortment contains the faces of a number of individuals who spent a long time engaged on the native railroads — reminiscent of conductor Tom Burke, proven serving to folks board the final Milwaukee Street passenger practice out of the Madison depot on April 30, 1971 (pictured left).

That photograph, and lots of others included within the exhibit, was taken by John Gruber, who based the Middle for Railroad Images & Artwork throughout his 35-year tenure within the College of Wisconsin–Madison’s publications division. Gruber died on Oct. 9, 2018. The exhibit may be seen on the airport till Jan. 26, 2020.
