On Saturday, August 6, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., the Cohasset Community Association will be holding its annual Bazaar, Food and Music Festival. Nestled in the pines, just a short 15 miles north of Chico on Cohasset Road, our little community will feature craft vendors, a huge rummage sale, 10 hours of mountain music, BBQ & natural foods; all at an elevation of about 2,800 and 10 degrees cooler than the valley.
Our Community Association is celebrating its 52nd year, and is run by a volunteer board and funded through memberships, fundraisers and donations. Our meeting hall was built by community volunteers, from a barracks purchased from the US Govt. at Chico Airport for a grand total of $15, and sits on 2 acres of property that was donated by two local residents.
Cohasset has a rich history of interesting folks who have always been of an independent nature. According to the latest census, we also have a high number of veterans and people with advanced degrees. We recently had a fire that was put out by some brave locals with their water trucks, that never even made the news!
Another interesting fact: Cohasset was the source of much of the lumber that built many Chico homes. At one point, there were a half-dozen lumber mills on the hill. James Keefer was one of the major players in the Cohasset timber industry.
