A state-of-the-art virtual reality gaming centre has opened in Bishop Auckland, following the runaway success of the owners’ similar venue in Teesside.

Husband and wife partnership Rachel and Kaiyn Crooks are delighted to have opened their second Gaming Hideaway, in the town close to Rachel’s former home, just over one year after opening their Teesside gaming centre.

The Gaming Hideaway Bishop Auckland, on Newgate Street in the centre of town, offers gamers the chance to play the latest console games, as well as some of the world’s best virtual reality gaming experiences.

Virtual reality team tasks are also great for families and workmates or corporate parties, for a team-building experience.

Rachel said: “We are so pleased that we have been able to open the second Gaming Hideaway just over a year after opening our successful venue on Teesside.

“We have an even bigger space here in Bishop Auckland, including a café area that offers everything we do in Teesside – cakes, coffees and Tango Ice Blasts – but we also have a pizza oven, enabling families to spend even more time at the venue and make it into a real day out.

“We have installed fantastic artwork again with UV paint, which is stunning and adds to the futuristic atmosphere in the venue and we are looking forward to welcoming new customers from Bishop Auckland and the neighbouring towns and villages.”

When they opened The Gaming Hideaway Teesside, the world was just coming out of lockdown and Rachel and Kaiyn had no idea how the entertainment complex would take off, having invested a six-figure sum and putting all their resources into it.

However, the couple soon realised they had “something special” to offer – frequently operating at 80% capacity – and they are now looking to grow the business by opening more venues across the region and possibly the wider UK.

The family specifically chose Bishop Auckland for their next venture, as Rachel used to live in a nearby village and wants to be involved in trying to “bring some life back” into the town.

Rachel said: “I have very happy memories from this part of the world and we’re proud to open our second venue here in Bishop Auckland.

The Northern Echo:

“As well as opening a second venue that is double the size of our original venue here, we have made some improvements to our offering on Teesside, including the addition of a Gatling simulator there.

“We have also revamped our website to reflect the growth of the company and improved our online booking system.”

The Gaming Hideaway offers party packages for young gamers who want to celebrate their birthdays at the venue, as well as two-hour gaming packages for £14.99. For more information, visit www.thegaminghideaway.com.
