Logitech is branching out from PC accessories to create a cloud gaming handheld device.

The company’s Logitech G brand is partnering with China’s Tencent Games to develop the product, which will be out later this year.

The Logitech G Gaming Handheld is not designed to play downloaded games on the hardware. Instead, the system will use an internet connection to stream the experience from major cloud gaming services such as Nvidia’s GeForce Now and Microsoft’s Xbox

You can already do this on a laptop or smartphone, but it seems Logitech sees an opportunity to sell a dedicated device solely aimed at cloud gaming—a growing but still niche market.

“The new device will support multiple cloud gaming services, and both companies are working with the Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now teams, so gamers can play AAA games when they are away from their console or PC,” Logitech said in Tuesday’s announcement(Opens in a new window)

The partnership will meld Logitech’s hardware expertise with Tencent’s software to create the upcoming device. In the US, Tencent is perhaps best known for investing and buying game studios, including League of Legends developer Riot Games. However, the announcement specifically says the Tencent Game division, which focuses on developing and publishing mobile games including PUBG Mobile, will be responsible for developing the product.

“Logitech G’s leadership in PC and console gaming gear make them an ideal partner to help us realize the vision of bringing a better gaming experience to gamers around the globe,” says Daniel Wu, general manager of Tencent Games Smart Solution Innovation Lab.

However, both companies are remaining mum on the product’s specs. For now, interested buyers can sign up for an email newsletter(Opens in a new window) that will send out updates about the device.

It’s not the first time a company has tried to develop a cloud gaming handheld. Last year, Lenovo accidentally leaked details about an Android handheld device designed to run game streaming services. But the fate of that product remains unclear.
