Plans for fast-food chain Checkers to open a location in Bristol Township’s Croydon section were greenlit Thursday evening.

Bristol Township Council approved plans for franchisee ARAR Foods LLC to open a 1,200-square-foot Checkers and a joined 2,400-square-foot convivence store for the now-closed Wells Fargo branch at 399 Route 13.

The plan calls for remodeling the building and reconstructing it to fit the needs of the fast food joint and convivence store, said David Shafkowitz, an attorney for ARAR Foods LLC.

The township has approved a waiver for 33 parking spots in place of the 44 required by ordinance.

The Checkers will have a drive-thru lane for customers.

The developer previously told the township would be no indoor seating, but there would be a small area for seating outside.

The developer also told officials in the past the site would reduce impervious service of the mostly paved lot by adding some greenery.

Council President Craig Bowen welcomed the businesses to the township, and joked that they should bring some treats to public meetings.

Shafkowitz said cleanup of the site could begin in as soon as 10 days.

ARAR Foods LLC has already purchased the bank site for just over $1 million, according to county property records.

In the past, Checkers operated a location at the corner of Woodbourne and Bristol Oxford Valley roads in the Levittown section of Middletown Township. That location closed in 2013.

The Wells Fargo building was previously owned by Farmers National Bank of Bucks County in the 1950s. Farmers National Bank of Bucks County was purchased by Fidelity Bank in the late 1950s. Through the years and acquisitions, the location was a First Union branch, a Wachovia, and finally a Wells Fargo.
