Scouting the Gamecocks
South Carolina enters the game ranked No. 12 in the country. The Gamecocks opened the season with a strong 0-0 draw with defending-champion, No. 1 Florida State in Columbia. South Carolina spread the wealth a season ago with eight players registering eight-or-more points on the year.

The Gamecocks enter the 2022 season on the heels of an NCAA Quarterfinals appearance which included North Carolina in the first time for the first time in the Tar Heels’ illustrious history.

Series History
ECU has faced South Carolina six times before, with the most recent matchup coming Aug. 26 last year in Johnson Stadium with a 3-1 victory for the then-tenth ranked Gamecocks. South Carolina leads the all-time series 6-0.

Quotable
“As they say, no rest for the weary,” said Head Coach Gary Higgins. “We are following up our extremely tough matchup with #2 Duke last night with another formidable opponent, #12 South Carolina. First and foremost, I am very proud of our team’s effort Thursday. We proved to ourselves that we belong on the field with the best teams in the country. We will never celebrate a loss, but we will always acknowledge hard work, teamwork and passionate performances, and I felt my team showed all of those in abundance Thursday.

“If we can be tactically disciplined against South Carolina, play with intensity, and then add a little more quality on the ball, then I am confident we will give them a very good game on the road. We are really excited to test ourselves against another top 15 team in the country and we know that these games will help us in the long run. Thanks and Go Pirates!”
