GENEVA, N.Y. – Overall it was an outstanding showing for the Ithaca College women’s tennis team who wrapped up their opening weekend at the Mary Hosking Invitational in Geneva, N.Y. on Sunday afternoon.

After punching a ticket to the B Flight semifinals, Lauren Rodriguez squared off against St. Lawrence’s Molly Jespersen as her opponent from SLU got the better of her taking the match 8-0. In the C Flight semifinal, Rebecca Andrews also went against a skilled Saints opponent as she was matched up with Maya Stepic. It was back-and-forth before Andrews fell by an 8-6 final.

It turned out to be an all Bombers final in the D Flight. Sabrina Cheung continued her impressive collegiate debut by winning her semifinal against Elena Styliades, 8-4. Caroline Herz who was also competing in the same flight, setup the Bomber vs. Bomber final as she bested her opponent from St. Lawrence 8-1. In what was a competitive final, Sabrina Cheung ended up coming away with D Flight singles title defeating Herz 8-6.

The Bombers also captured the B-Flight doubles title with Rebecca Andrews and Kayla Shenk besting all the competition within the bracket. They worked their way past opponents from St. Lawrence in the semifinal before posting a tight back and forth match in the final against Rochester’s Jaclyn Dron and Shreya Mandalapu. Andrews and Shenk bested their opponents 8-7 (5-0) to claim the title.

The Bombers will compete next at The College of New Jersey Invitational (September 17-18) at TCNJ and then will compete in the ITA Northeast Regional beginning on September 24 with this year’s regional championship held on the campus of Hamilton College.
