MILFORD, CT (WFSB) – The potential for heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding may impact the roads for drivers looking to return home from the Labor Day holiday weekend.

The heaviest rain was forecasted to arrive by Monday afternoon into the evening.

Channel 3 issued an Early Warning Weather Alert for it.

Some people decided to head home from their holiday weekend a day early as a result of the forecast.

Travelers said that traffic was not too bad on Sunday evening.

“When it started to get rainy, it got a little worse definitely. [It was] a little hard to see everything,” said Sabrina Schully of Rhode Island.

Schully was not the only one who didn’t like driving in the rain.

“Right now, it’s a little bit tough. I wish I had my bigger car. That would have been nicer,” said Gopola Vasu, also of Rhode Island.

With heavy rain and possible flash flooding forecasted Monday into Tuesday, travelers who hit on the road said getting home earlier was better.

“We want one day to get back to work and so on. We’re building a house so we need to get things ready for that too,” Vasu said.

While the weather hasn’t brought any relief to drivers, gas prices have.

The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline dropped to $3.73. A month ago, it was $4.30.
