STATESBORO, Ga. – Another explosive second half, along with five goals from five different goal scorers pushed the Charlotte men’s soccer team past Georgia Southern, 5-0, as head man Kevin Langan tied CLT’s all-time wins record with his 117th dub as the Niners head coach.

The win pushed CLT’s record to 3-0-0 on the year, while Southern fell to 0-3-0 on the young 2022 season.

The Niners saw goals from junior Matthew Kirk, seniors Alex Willis and Kameron Lacey, sophomores Filip Jauk and Caullum Watts.

Kirk finished the night with a trio of points all coming on the Niners first three goals, scoring an SC Top Ten worthy banger from outside the 18, before assisting on Willis’ goal to later double CLT’s lead.

Senior Koby Carr and freshman Brad Dildy also penned their names on the score sheet with an assist each, with Carr upping his points streak to three consecutive matches.

The Niners opened the evening with an absolute bang as Kirk took control of possession just outside the 18, bulldozed through a pair of defenders and curled a shot into the top corner of the far post to give CLT a, 1-0, lead.

The reminder of the half was largely dominated by the 49ers, who outshot GS, 10-4, but were unable to find the back of the net again.

In the second half, the Niners scored early, often and seemingly with every touch of the ball. In a 15-minute span, Willis deflected/finished off a brilliant move just inside the six to put the Green & White up, 2-0.

Minutes later, Jauk stole the ball in the mid field and made a brilliant solo run that finished with him chipping Southern’s keeper.

With less than a half hour remaining, Watts netted his first career collegiate goal, placing a gorgeous free kick into the upper 90 and just past the outstretched keepers’ hands.

Lacey finished the scoring off and cemented the nights final score line after taking a brilliant chipped through ball from Dildy into the 18, before cooly placing it into the back of the net.

A SECOND HALF BARRAGE…AGAIN

Charlotte scored four second half goals on the night, upping its season total to 10 goals following the halftime break. CLT has scored 12 goals on the year with just two coming in the opening half—Lacey’s opener at UCONN less than three minutes in and Kirk’s on Sunday in Statesboro.

ANOTHER CLEAN SHEET

Senior Thomas Wallis and the entire back line kept a second consecutive clean sheet. It marks the first time the Niners have posted back-to-back shutouts since knocking off South Carolina, 3-0, and Wofford, 2-0, last September.

RECORD TIED

Head man Kevin Langan became joint winningest head coach in Charlotte men’s soccer history with his 117th win at the helm on Sunday night. He is currently tied with former coach, John Tart and can break his record with a victory over Detroit Mercy on Friday night.

UP NEXT

Charlotte returns home for the first of four consecutive at Transamerica when it hosts Detroit Mercy on Friday evening. Kickoff from the Queen City is slated for 5 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
