‘I should’ve paid more attention in GCSE physics!’ Coronation Street’s Samia Longchambon baffled by swimming pool selfie optical illusion in which her body appears cut in half

Samia Longchambon was left baffled after snapping a swimming pool selfie in which her body appeared cut in half.

The Coronation Street actress, 40, who plays Maria Connor in the soap, took to Instagram on Saturday to share a throwback picture from earlier in the summer, in which she could be seen wearing an animal print bikini top and black bottoms with a straw hat.

However, the lower half of her body was completely detached from her upper half in the photo, with her legs appearing to be walking away under water.

She captioned her post: ‘I should’ve paid more attention in GCSE physics, had to Google it.. #refraction.’

Refraction is when light travels from air into water, causing it slows down and change direction slightly, creating the optical illusion seen in Samia’s image.

In another picture, Samia looked relaxed as she held her hands in the air while walking across a glass-bottomed section of the crystal clear pool she was immersed in while on a recent holiday.

The stunning snaps come after Samia revealed she was misdiagnosed with asthma after suffering from breathing difficulties due to her crippling anxiety.

Appearing on Loose Women last year, the actress revealed she has struggled with her mental health since she was a child, which prompted her mother Patsy Ghadie to take her to the doctors.

Recalling the outcome of the appointment, Samia admitted the anxiety felt in her early years has continued into adulthood.

She told the panellists via video link: ‘Everyone who knows me has always known I’m quite an anxious person.

‘I’m known for being a bit of a worrier and being really cautious with everything.

‘I’ve had anxiety since I was a child and when I was a child, my mum took me to the doctors and the doctor first diagnosed asthma because I couldn’t get a deep breath.

‘So they ended up giving me inhalers when I was about 11 thinking that it was asthma but it wasn’t, it was anxiety.’

The actress is mother to Freya, 11, whom she shares with her property developer ex-husband Matthew Smith.

The couple separated in 2011 after six years of marriage.

She tied the knot with Dancing On Ice professional Sylvain Longchambon in 2016 and they welcomed their son Yves, six, in September 2015.
