Trance of Thought, Part Two
Is there is a bigger picture that makes sense of the density of suffering that has arisen in the world?

My new work is a continuation of the series Trance of Thought. It reflects how to begin to search for that bigger picture. To try and see things more clearly, I am taking them apart, starting with how things really are rather than what I think they are. Making the distinction between the two means stepping away from my cultural assumptions and received histories. I am finding that by destabilizing my photographs into fragments of narrative and knowledge in a transition of recombination a different, unique image is coming into focus.

With Trance of Thought, Part Two I’m continuing to combine images from 15th-17th century European painting; 19th century North American landscape painting; my documentary stills and nonobjective photomontages. By abstracting these layered images, the outcome is a density of visual fragments. The photographs measure 51 inches by 66 inches up to 66 x 88 inches. The photographs all have a white grid, which is part of the photographs design, and also indicates how it will be printed in sections.
