NEW YORK, N.Y. – A pair of Villanova Wildcats were honored by the BIG EAST in its weekly awards announced Monday.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Kent Dickey is the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week while senior back Viktor Bendiktsson, who scored goals in both of the ‘Cats games last week, is on the Honor Roll.

BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week

Kent Dickey, Villanova, R-Sr., GK (Richmond, Va.)

Dickey made nine saves in a 1-0-1 week for Villanova, leading the Wildcats past NJIT, 3-0, on Wednesday, before earning a draw against Providence on Saturday. In the mid-week victory, Dickey acted as a brick wall with seven saves to secure the clean sheet. In the conference opener, Dickey made a pair of saves in the 1-1 draw.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

Owen O’Malley, Creighton, So., D (Cary, N.C.)

A wing back for Creighton, O’Malley led the Bluejays with five points in a 1-0-1 week. O’Malley collected a goal and an assist in the win over Omaha and tallied the lead goal for Creighton against Connecticut on Saturday. Overall, O’Malley ranks second in the BIG EAST with 13 points (5g, 3a), only one point behind his teammate Duncan McGuire.

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

Cameron Wheeler, Xavier, Gr., M (Louisville, Ky.)

Wheeler helped Xavier go 1-0-1 last week with a 3-1 win over Northern Kentucky and a 2-2 tie with Seton Hall in its BIG EAST opener. Wheeler tallied three points against the Pirates on Saturday, first scoring the game’s opening goal in the 37th minute. Later in the match Wheeler connected with Fabrizio Bernal De La Garza in the 79th minute to double Xavier’s lead in the contest.

 BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Zenden Hart, St. John’s, Fr., GK (Booker Bay, Australia)

Hart played a crucial role in St. John’s win over Georgetown to open BIG EAST play on Friday night. The former Australian U17 national team keeper stopped three Hoyas’ shots in the 3-1 win. Earlier in the week, Hart also made three saves in a 1-0 loss to Columbia. On the season, Hart has not allowed more than one goal in any appearance and carries a 0.80 GPA.       

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Michael Stone, UConn, Sr., GK

Making just his second start in goal for the Huskies in 2022, Stone stepped up with three saves in the weekend’s 1-1 draw against Creighton.

Michael Anderson, DePaul, So., F

In a 1-1 draw with No. 20 Butler, Anderson found the back of the net in the 18th minute off a corner kick by Omar Ramadan.

Gil Santos, Providence, Sr., F

Santos was crucial in a 1-0-1 week for the Friars, scoring the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over New Hampshire on Tuesday. the goal was scored from the top of the penalty box with a bicycle kick through multiple defenders, landing as the No. 1 play on SportsCenter Top-Ten.

Johannes Pex, Seton Hall, Sr., D

Pex scored a pair of goals this past week, one each against Army and Xavier. His goal against Xavier came off a penalty kick which leveled the match at 2-2 in the 90th minute.

Viktor Bendiktsson, Villanova, Sr., D

Bendiktsson was instrumental in helping the Wildcats surrender just a single goal in a 1-0-1 week. He also made a difference on the offensive end of the pitch with two goals, tallying one in Wednesday’s 3-0 win over NJIT, in addition to Villanova’s lone goal in the 1-1 draw against Providence.
