BLACKSBURG – With a performance that had been marinating within the squad for quite some time, Virginia Tech downed Longwood, 4-0, on Tuesday night. The win marked head coach Mike Brizendine‘s 100th career win as head coach of the Hokies.

The Hokies struck early and often, as all four goals were scored in the first half.

Carter Hensley recorded the first goal of his career for Virginia Tech in the 7th minute. Danny Flores was able to play in Hensley into space on the right side of the box and the Charlotte, N.C. native took a powerful hit that ricocheted of the keeper and into the net.

In the 30th minute, Kyle McDowell delivered a low ball from the side of the box to Conor Pugh standing near the penalty spot. Pugh wrapped his left foot and beat the Longwood keeper to double Tech’s lead. Just four minutes later, Pugh would grab a brace, as he headed a cross from Nick Blacklock over the keeper and out of a defender’s reach.

The scoring frenzy ended as the half neared a close, following a successful penalty kick by Flores. Zayyan Ahmed had won the spot kick after some crafty footwork in the box led the Lancer’s defender to bringing him down.

In goal, Ben Martino and Connor Jordan-Hyde combined for a clean sheet. Martino protected the net for the first 60 minutes, while Jordan-Hyde came in as relief to finish the match.
