NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Kentucky women’s soccer (7-3-0, 0-2-0 SEC) was upended by Vanderbilt (7-1-1, 1-1-0 SEC) on Thursday night, dropping a 2-0 decision at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex in its first SEC road match of the 2022 season.

The Commodores scored a goal in each half while Kentucky was unable to find the net for just the second time this year.

The Wildcats had six shots in all on the night, one of which was on target. Freshman goalkeeper Tallulah Miller tallied four saves in the effort, tied for her second most in a game this year.

Rachel Deresky opened the scoring in the 34th minute with her fourth goal of the season to put the Commodores in front, 1-0.

Minutes later, senior Hannah Richardson nearly leveled matters in the 39th minute, chasing down a stretch pass from Dana Dahm and firing a left-footed shot that was saved by an outstretched Sara Wojdelko.

The teams headed for half with Vanderbilt maintaining a 1-0 advantage.

UK applied some offensive pressure in the early stages of the second half, but the Commodores were able to stretch their lead in the 50th minute off a goal by Alex Wagner.

Richardson continued to spark chances for the Cats as they looked to climb back into the match. A promising run by the senior forward was called back for offsides in the 56th minute, negating a potential scoring opportunity. Then, in the 77th minute, Richardson beat her marker off the dribble before dropping a touch pass back to Taylor Hattori, whose blast from 20 yards out sailed just over the crossbar.

For the match, shots favored Vanderbilt 13-6 while corner kicks were 5-2 for the Commodores.

The Wildcats are back at home this Sunday at 1 p.m. when the team takes on Tennessee at the Wendell and Vickie Bell Soccer Complex. Admission is free for all fans with streaming also available on SECN+.
