WACO, Texas The Texas Tech women’s tennis team closed out a dominant weekend at the Baylor Invite on Sunday after collecting 22 total wins in just three days of competition.

On day one, the women picked up 10 wins including a ranked victory. In addition, they tallied eight more wins on day two and rounded out the tournament with four more victories on the final day.  

In doubles, two Red Raider teams posted four wins at the Baylor Invite. Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova started day one perfect after defeating the Texas duo of Vivian Ovrootsky and Marlee Zein, 6-1, before recorded another win against Brooke Thompson and Lyubov Kostenko (Baylor) by the same score. They would again go undefeated on day two after beating Saara Orav and Federica Trevisan of Rice, 6-3, and overtaking the Owls’ pairing of Marte Lambrecht and Allison Zipoli, 6-0.

The other Texas Tech tandem to pick up four doubles wins were Olivia Peet and Cristina Tiglea. They first defeated Simran Kortikere and Gabby Cusano (Texas), 6-2, before winning match No. 2 against Trevisan and Orav (Rice), 6-3. On the second day of competition, the Red Raider duo collected wins over two Texas pairs in Grace Thomas and Susanna Brass, 6-1, as well as Ovrootsky and Zein, 6-2.

Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Camryn Stepp also added two more doubles victories at the tournament when they beat Thomas and Brass (Texas), 6-1, and Cusano and Kortikere (Texas), 6-1.

In singles, Dmitrichenko led the way going an undefeated 3-0 this weekend without ever dropping a set. On day one, Dmitrichenko defeated Thomas (Texas), 6-4, 6-3, then overtook Baylor’s Thompson, 6-3, 6-1, before finishing the tournament with a victory over Kostenko (Baylor), 6-3, 6-1.

Sayfetdinova started the tournament with a huge, ranked win over No. 59-ranked Zein of Texas, who also was a singles finalist at the ITA Texas Regionals. She battled with Zein before coming up with the three-set victory, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. She also added another win in singles when she beat Paula Baranano (Baylor), 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Komac joined Sayfetdinova with two singles wins on the weekend as she downed both Kostenko (Baylor), 7-5, 6-4, and Orav (Rice), 6-2, 6-3. Tiglea posted two singles wins against Baranano (Baylor), 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-5, and Marte Lambrecht (Rice), 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. No. 115-ranked Peet was able to get two singles wins as well after defeating Rice’s Orav, 7-5, 7-6 (4), and Lambrecht, 6-1, 6-0. Stepp added her first singles win of the fall with a dominant victory over Cusano of Texas, 6-1, 6-0

The Red Raiders are back in action for the Texas A&M Hidden Dual starting on Oct. 21.
