Relive the City of Fort Worth’s Hispanic Heritage Month Employee Celebration, “Viva el Vaquero: The Evolution of the Cowboy,” on FWTV and the City’s YouTube channel.

The program, which was presented on Oct. 6, celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a historical presentation and cultural performances. Here are the highlights:

  • “Viva el Vaquero: The Evolution of the Cowboy” featured an employee-prepared presentation on the history of the vaquero and its significance to Fort Worth.
  • Marecela Fuentes, an author and professor of Latino/a studies and creative writing, shared excerpts from her recently published essay, “A Single Silver Spur,” which weaves the history of charro and her reflection as a female learning the skills of the male-dominated charro.
  • A vaquero with the Fort Worth Herd presented a lasso demonstration.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nationally every year from Sept. 15-Oct. 15.
