MEBANE, N.C. — While thinking about our city, I also thought of ways an out-of-town family could enjoy a weekend here. Inspired by one of the most popular posts on my blog, I put together a few ways you can spend your time.

Allow the charm of Mebane to enchant you. It’s a small but growing city clinging tightly to its southern delight. And don’t let the size fool you. There’s plenty of activity for families to get into!

Where to stay in Mebane?

Unfortunately, we don’t have a hotel to brag about in this post. There are many in the area but we prefer recommending places we have real experience with. When that changes, we’ll fill you in on our experience. In the meantime, a quick Google search will give you a thorough listing.

Where to at breakfast in Mebane?

Many places serve breakfast in Mebane if you need to grab something quickly. For example, Bojangles, Biscuitville, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Burger King. Cracker Barrel is also an option if you’re looking for a dine-in experience.

A place I personally recommend is Filament Coffee + Tea. It’s quiet, quaint, and right in the heart of downtown.

The coffee shop doesn’t offer a full menu but their oatmeal options are very tasty. Add to that a delicious cup of coffee, milk/orange juice for the kids and you have a great start to the day. Alternative milk options are also available if necessary. Be sure to check out the menu for other drinks like teas, lemonade, smoothies, and hot chocolate.

Shopping

Venture downtown and take a stroll into some of the many shops. One of our favorites is Impulsive Creativity. The items sold in the store are created by local artists. When you make a purchase, you’re getting unique pieces and adding to someone’s livelihood. Win-win.

You’ll find items like home decor, clothing, jewelry, crystals, toys, etc. Purchase something for yourself and souvenirs for friends/family. Impulsive Creativity also offers various art classes to the public. Check the site for more information.

Within five minutes driving distance is Tanger Outlets, a shopping center with various outlet stores. Visit stores such as Carter’s, Bath & Body Works, Converse, Gap, Old Navy, Rue 21, & Vera Bradley. There’s such a variety of retail shops, you’re bound to find what you’re looking for. A few restaurants & dessert spots are in the center as well.

Activities

The Mebane Community Park is perfect for families any time of year. There’s a colorful playground with soft flooring, a splash pad during warmer months, soccer fields, a dog park, walking trails and a grassy area for open play.
Lake Michael Park is another great stop. There’s plenty of fun to be had. For instance, pontoon boat rides, hiking trails, and a playground. Even if you prefer to relax and take in the scenery, your soul will be full.
Mebane Historical Museum is open to the public and admission is free. Hours are Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Mebane Train Display is interesting to see but is only open once per month and for special events.

Buffaloe Lanes Mebane Family Bowling Center is one place my daughters can spend hours! There’s an arcade and a bowling alley. Food can also be purchased, too. We’ve been to birthday parties here as well as celebrated our own.

Lunch and dinner dining

There are many Mebane restaurants to recommend and I’ve named a few in previous articles. One I’d like to highlight here is Junction on 70. My daughters can’t get enough of their Grandma’s Pizza and Garlic Parmesan & Herb Wings!

I think I’ve listed enough to get you started on your visit. Remember, this pertains exclusively to Mebane but there’s even more to experience in the surrounding areas.
