O’Hare Airport Braces for the Ultimate Travel Rush This Monday!

CHICAGO (WLS) — As Christmas approaches, it is anticipated that travelers will crowd airports and take to the roads on Monday.

Monday is forecasted to be the busiest day at O’Hare Airport, with nearly 243,000 travelers expected to go through security.

The morning was uneventful as lines moved swiftly and wait times remained short for those heading to their holiday destination.

Triple A cautions travelers that both airports and highways are likely to be congested throughout the extended holiday week.

TSA advises allowing extra time for security checks: two hours for domestic and three hours for international journeys.

If you are bringing gifts, TSA recommends they be left unwrapped in case they trigger an alarm, necessitating further inspection.

“It’s just the right day. It shouldn’t be that bad,” shared Gabriella, who is en route to London. “So far, things are good. My husband received an upgrade, so we’re doing well.”

“I’m really pleased to be departing from here. Hopefully, we make it on. We’re flying standby, so it’s uncertain,” said Alyssa, whose destination is San Diego.

Triple A indicates that driving remains the most favored option, with nearly 90 percent of travelers anticipated to take the road to reach their destinations.

Fuel costs are also lower than the previous year, with the national average hovering around $3.04 for regular unleaded, and every little bit helps during the holiday season.
