CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A single poor choice can devastate lives – and deciding to drink and drive is a choice with dire repercussions.
That’s the warning from South Carolina Highway Patrol officers as part of their “Sober or Slammer” initiative ahead of a hectic holiday travel period.
Millions are set to travel in the upcoming days, as reported by AAA.
Officers emphasize they want everyone to keep one thing in mind: do not drink and operate a vehicle.
Recently, officers and other law enforcement entities initiated this year’s Sober or Slammer Campaign to remove impaired drivers from the streets.
Cpl. Nick Pye highlights that this is particularly vital during the holiday season as many people celebrate with parties and gatherings alongside family and friends.
“What we usually observe is decent individuals making a singular poor choice of driving after leaving a holiday gathering or event with friends and family; they consumed some alcohol and made the unfortunate decision to take the wheel,” Pye stated. “When a generally good individual makes a grave error, it can transform them into perhaps a less admirable person, while also leading to tragic outcomes.”
Pye advises that anyone intending to drink should plan for a sober transportation option in advance.
