Carlie Latta Shines Bright: Utah State’s Freshman Star Crowned Mountain West Player of the Week!

LOGAN, Utah – The guard for Utah State women’s basketball, Carlie Latta, was recognized as the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. This marks the first occasion in her career that Latta has received weekly recognition from the MW.

Latta achieved a career-best 19 points in Utah State’s recent game versus Colorado State. The novice player from Paul, Idaho, recorded 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Latta played a vital role in overcoming a double-digit deficit during the match, scoring seven consecutive points in the last minute of the first half. Additionally, Latta contributed four rebounds, two assists, and one steal during the game.

Latta’s 19 points are the highest by an Aggie freshman since the 2016-17 campaign when Shannon Dufficy netted 21 against Arizona and Olivia West also posted 19 points against New Mexico.

Latta and the Aggies will resume competition as they enter 2025, facing Wyoming on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 1, at 2 p.m.
