Ah, 2025. You have arrived. Already.

Don’t misunderstand me—I am thrilled (I cherish new beginnings almost as much as remote starts during a Minnesota winter), but it seems that plenty of us are still somewhat reeling from 2024 (and perhaps even all the way back to 2020); I just try to remain pragmatic.

Therefore, for that reason, I have established three business aims that prioritize growth over achievement, as that is what I require from 2025 more than anything else.

1. RECONNECTING WITH HAPPINESS

The previous year was quite challenging personally. I said “farewell” to individuals in every possible way and spent an excessive amount of time attempting to mend relationships that were fundamentally damaged. This consumed much of my mental energy that would typically have gone toward celebrating and embracing all the positive things (it appears I cannot celebrate with a wounded heart). I take pride in being impartial and have historically been able to distinguish personal matters from professional ones, but 2024 was a significant test in that aspect, and I did not succeed. Severely. As I step into 2025, though, I feel more like my true self—a self I haven’t recognized in years—and I’m eager to return to a place where my heart feels healthy and joyful, ready to spread happiness and kindness like the confetti that cascaded in Times Square last night.

2. REINVEST IN MICROWEDDINGS (ONCE MORE)

I’ve shared with many of you that one of the most exciting outcomes of the COVID period was the increase in elopements and microweddings. As someone who appreciates the emotions and anticipation of a wedding day, these are not merely small or “simple” celebrations. Quite the opposite. They are concentrated versions—they are meaningful and impactful declarations of love and commitment, and I wholeheartedly support them. I had somewhat phased them out, but I was fortunate enough to revisit Gunflint Lodge multiple times and remembered how much I cherished them. I have recently reintroduced them on the website, so if you’re seeking that type of coverage… I am once again your expert.

3. ADVANCE MY EDUCATION

I know myself fairly well, and I recognize that I can be quite confident in certain circumstances (if we aren’t our own most enthusiastic supporters, how can we anticipate others to be?). Nonetheless, I used to pair that confidence with continued learning. Knowledge equates to strength, but in recent years, I have paused my educational pursuits (again, I believe this ties back to resolution #1, but I digress). Whether it involves participating in workshops or seeking a new skill-based online course to explore, I aim to return to a state of learning.

This is all I request from the upcoming year. I simply wish to keep evolving, transforming, and becoming.

And I hope the same for you and your loved ones.
