LG Unveils Stunning 45-Inch Bendable OLED Gaming Monitor with Jaw-Dropping 5K Clarity

A set of three new LG OLED gaming displays is anticipated to be unveiled next week at the CES 2025 exhibition. Each of these monitors will exceed 39 inches diagonally, with one even capable of bending from a flat position to a 900mm (900R) radius curve. The Ultragear GX9 45GX990A is the model under discussion, and its 5K resolution will deliver an expansive desktop area that complements its enormous 45-inch screen size.

The three fresh displays appear to provide LG with ample competitiveness for spots on our best gaming monitor list this year, as the firm seems eager to stretch the boundaries of screen size, resolution, and design. The other announced monitors come with a fixed 800R curvature, with the UltraGear 45GX950A also featuring a 45-inch panel, while the LG UltraGear 39GX90SA opts for a smaller 39-inch screen.

Returning to the 45GX990A that was unveiled on the company’s website, although its complete specifications haven’t been fully revealed yet, the new display certainly boasts numerous advantages. The 21:9 aspect ratio screen offers an ultra-wide view that’s perfect for enjoying widescreen films, engaging in flight simulations and racing games, and provides an expansive desktop workspace.

Crucially, the enormous screen size is paralleled by a high 5,120 x 2,160 resolution, instead of the more common 3,440 x 1,440 resolution that many ultra-wide gaming monitors employ. In our Acer Predator X45 assessment, we discovered that the 45-inch panel performed excellently for racing and flight simulations, though its inferior resolution didn’t cater well to other activities. This new LG should address that concern, although you will still need to move your head frequently to appreciate the full extent of such a large screen.

LG has not yet disclosed the refresh rate of the display but has confirmed it will feature Dual-Mode. This allows the panel to alternate between a higher resolution at a reduced refresh rate and a lower resolution paired with a quicker refresh rate. Recently, we reviewed the 32-inch 32GS95UE, which has Dual-Mode functionality, and its capability to switch between a 4K resolution at 240Hz and a staggering 480Hz at 1080p was so remarkable that we currently deem it the best overall gaming monitor available. Regarding its bending capability, we have seen such functionality before in models like the Corsair Xeneon Flex. Initially, it felt somewhat like a gimmick, and it still largely appears somewhat superfluous. Nevertheless, the unique curvature allows for a more engrossing single-user experience up close, while straightening the panel offers a view that better accommodates multiple viewers.

The UltraGear 45GX950A, meanwhile, features the same screen size and resolution, but its curvature is fixed at a tighter 800R radius. LG mentions that this panel includes Dual-Mode capabilities with eight customizable settings, in addition to supporting DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, and USB-C with 90W power delivery. Furthermore, the monitor also supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync. Notably, these features are not explicitly listed for the 45GX990A, but we would infer it likely includes them, considering it’s the premium model.

As for the 39GX90SA, it’s also a 21:9 aspect ratio screen but in a slightly smaller 39-inch format. LG does not disclose its resolution but confirms that it incorporates LG’s webOS interface alongside integrated streaming services, and its 800R curved display “creates vibrant, nuanced colors and deep, dark blacks, making it ideal for AAA games and HDR films and series.” It also includes USB Type-C video outputs for easy laptop connectivity and comes with a “space-saving L-shaped stand for an organized desk setup.”

Being OLED screens, all these displays will feature incredibly rapid response times, with the 45GX990A advertised as having a 0.03ms response time. Therefore, provided the panels come with refresh rates exceeding 120Hz, they should ensure an exceptionally smooth gaming experience.
