GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Greenville County Coroner’s Office disclosed fresh information following a teenager’s death in a heartbreaking incident just days prior to the New Year.

Seventeen-year-old Kamel Sevion Sewell was operating a go-kart when it crashed into an industrial forklift.

As per the coroner’s report, two park staff members presented authorities with contradictory accounts regarding the occurrence.

The report indicates that the forklift operator and track supervisor stated they were cleaning and getting the park ready for inspection. According to the forklift operator, the track supervisor informed him that the track was clear for them to proceed and finish railing. It was at this moment that the forklift operator felt the impact from the go-kart and called 911 upon noticing Sewell.

Conversely, this account differs from what the track supervisor relayed to investigators. The report shows that the track supervisor informed investigators he had told the forklift operator that there were still karts on the track, yet the forklift operator went onto the track regardless.

This situation is still under investigation by South Carolina’s Occupational Health and Safety Administration.

Funeral arrangements for Sewell are set for Saturday, January 11 at Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Greenville.
