Samsung Goes All In on OLED Gaming: Exciting Monitor Innovations for 2025

Just a few days after LG unveiled its CES 2025 lineup of displays, Samsung is doing likewise. The corporation has just unveiled several new models, and possibly the most remarkable among them is the Odyssey OLED G81SF. It is a 27-inch 4K display featuring a peak refresh rate of 240Hz, a 0.03ms response time, a glare-free screen, and rear-core illumination with 52 color variations. Additionally, Samsung is incorporating numerous burn-in protection mechanisms to guarantee that the Odyssey G81SF’s display remains pristine for many years. The G8 is expected to utilize the latest and most advanced OLED panel from Samsung Display.

The next model is the Odyssey OLED G60SF — also a 27-inch OLED display — featuring a QHD resolution and an astonishing 500Hz refresh rate that Samsung claims effectively “eliminates lag and motion blur for ultra-smooth gameplay during crucial moments.”

In 2025, Samsung is also finally launching the Odyssey 3D display, which it first hinted at during last year’s CES. This model allows you to experience 3D visuals without any specialized glasses by utilizing a lenticular lens on the front panel. “Eye tracking monitors the movement of both eyes using an integrated stereo camera, while view mapping constantly adapts the image to enhance depth perception,” Samsung stated in its press announcement. The Odyssey 3D is available solely in a 27-inch 4K format; the larger 37-inch version referenced last year seems to have been discarded. The company claims it delivers “a rapid 1ms gray-to-gray response time, and a 165Hz refresh rate.”

That concludes the overview of gaming-oriented displays, but Samsung is also introducing two additional models that are more centered on daily productivity. The SmartMonitor series is finally adopting OLED technology with the new Smart Monitor M9. This year, Samsung is incorporating an array of AI functionalities, including AI Picture Optimizer. Similar to its TVs, this feature “analyses input signals to ascertain the type of content being viewed — such as gaming, video, or productivity applications — and automatically adjusts the display settings for the optimal visual experience.” This also applies to gaming and can recognize the genre of the game you’re playing.

AI Upscaling Pro can enhance lower-resolution content to appear sharper at the M9’s 4K resolution, and the monitor boasts a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz. This is a notable improvement from the M8, which had a peak of 60Hz. Samsung asserts that the shift to OLED also enables a new “ultra-slim” design for the Smart Monitor M9, which should require greatly less desk space.

The final display being announced (at least for today) is the new 37-inch ViewFinity S8. It features a 16:9 aspect ratio, an integrated KVM switch, 90W USB-C passthrough charging, and encompasses 99 percent of the sRGB color spectrum. The peak brightness for this 4K LCD display reaches a maximum of 350 nits, which should be adequately suitable for any tasks performed at a desk.
